Students are working hard finishing up their Opinion essays this week. Also students have been working on the speeches for SCH (Simulated Congressional Hearings). After speeches are finalized, students will be working on the follow up questions asked by the judges. We are focused!
Reading - Students will be learning about Point of view, main idea and details, text structure.
Students will take a quiz on point of view late this week or next. Students should know the difference between first and third narration and be able to describe how a narrator's perspective influences how events are described.
Writing - Students wllll begin learning about Opinion essays.
Social Studies - We are learning how our government is organized and the important events of the 1800's.

Reading: This quarter we will be reading a variety of texts, both fiction and non-fiction. We'll be studying tone and mood, theme when reading fiction. We'll be studying main idea and details and text structure when reading non-fiction.
Writing: We'll be finishing up our historical fiction stories at the beginning of the quarter and then working on an opinion essay.
Social Studies - We'll be learning about the objections to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The quiz will be on: Monday, March 27, 2017 - PM class (Meeder) Wednesday, March 29, 2017 AM class (Ehrman) due to MISA testing in the mornings on Monday and Tuesday of that week.

Reading: Students will be reading short stories and passages during Reading Groups. Students are encouraged to keep track of their reading using a Reading Log. They write down the name of the book, # of pages, and date completed. If they reach their quarterly goal, they get a prize at the end of each quarter.
Book Clubs: Students are reading novels and having weekly meetings to discuss it.
Writing: Students are learning to write a historical fiction narrative.
